WAUKESHA– Ten Wisconsin companies Wednesday received the prestigious Wisconsin Business Friend of the Environment Awards for outstanding achievements in environmental protection. “These companies are dedicated to environmental stewardship, protecting the earth and keeping Wisconsin clean for generations to come,” said Scott Manley, director of the Wisconsin Environmental Working Group®, the affiliate of WMC which sponsors the annual awards. The ten winners were chosen from a competitive field of 45 companies nominated by their peers, and in some cases, the companies themselves. An independent panel of judges including an environmental regulator, and representatives from industry, environmental groups, and the University of Wisconsin System selected the winners. “Our hope is that the stories of the winners, and the nominees, will inspire everyone to minimize waste and protect the environment,” Manley said. “These companies show that government mandates are not needed when businesses lead the way to keep Wisconsin clean.” Business Friend of the Environment Award winners are categorized according to number of employees and judged in the areas of pollution prevention, environmental innovation and environmental stewardship. The winners were honored at the 19th Annual Environmental Policy and Awards Conference at the Country Springs Conference Center in Waukesha on May 14. 2008
